Wandsworth Arts Fringe at Holy Trinity, June 2024

Dreamwalk – Art exhibition (Sun 15th and Mon 16th, 7.30pm)

Created by Bernie Kennedy & Diebornart.

Held beneath the towering spire of Roehampton’s Holy Trinity Church, is the DreamWalk experience: over two evenings, you are invited to be transported to another place and time. Step into a place of difference and experience the sound, vision and movement as daylight fades into dusk creating a liminal space to further explore responses.

Expanding on the visual world inspired by Margate’s Dreamland amusement park, the performance art of Marina Abramovic in 2023 and two processional paintings by John Singer Sargent created over a century ago, DreamWalk will be an authentic participatory performance that will be staged every 15 minutes for a two-hour period alongside placed artworks created by both artists.

Audience members will be invited to “select textiles and props to wear from the collection of materials available for each painting scene” and at timed sessions – “step into the painting”.

Every DreamWalk enacts a repetition of a processional path for both painting scenes accompanied by a five minute video and sound installation above the central altar – every iteration will be similar yet different over time with each new group shaping the performance.

Above the performance , a place out of place, Margate’s iconic Dreamland building will hover, a site removed from daily life yet uncannily, in place.

This performance is the first iteration of an ongoing conceptual work that will sensitively record both evenings through film with a view to extending the DreamWalk performance as a contemporary collaborative work in the near future.

Come along and be part of, or bear witness to an exciting co-creation experience on the 15th and 16th June- drink refreshments available from 7:30pm – and exhibition 8:15pm – 10:15pm.
