Christians down the ages have known that silent, listening prayer can be a wonderful way to lay ourselves open to receiving the peace and joy of God. Thinking spiritual people in many other traditions would say the same.
It needs no special equipment – just your time and attention. But it does have to be a habit. There is an element of discipline – digging to find the deeper places.
If you’d like a little guidance to get started, do get in touch with the Vicar. Or come along to Morning Prayer, 8.30 every day except Saturday (intermittent in August, though). And you may find some resources in this outline Lent Course which we used in 2023. Or if all else fails, the Vicar has written a book on the topic.
“The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, ‘Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.’”
Mark 6.30-31
